Accepted IDs:

  • Your voter confirmation documents
  • Virginia driver’s license (including expired licenses)
  • Valid Virginia DMV-issued photo ID
  • Government-issued ID card from a federal, Virginia, or local political subdivision
  • Tribal enrollment or other tribal ID
  • U.S. military ID
  • Nursing home resident ID issued by a government facility
  • U.S. passport or passport card
  • Valid employee ID card, containing a photograph issued by voter’s employer in ordinary course of business (public or private employer)
  • Valid student ID issued by a public or private college or high school located in Virginia
  • Other U.S. or Virginia government-issued photo ID
  • Voter ID card issued by the Department of Elections
  • Current utility bill, bank statement, government check, or paycheck, containing your name and address (document cannot be more than 12 months old)
  • Any other current government document containing your name and address

To register online, you must have a valid Virginia DMV driver’s license or state ID card. If you do not have a Virginia ID, you must register in person at your local registrar.

Voting Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Be a resident of Virginia.
  • Be 18 years old on or before the next general election
  • (if you are 17, you can still register and vote in elections if you will be 18 on or before the next general election).
  • Not currently convicted of a felony or judged as mentally incapacitated and disqualified to vote.
